Carmel Warner

Biography

Growing up in a small country town my childhood was spent outdoors, exploring the surrounds and developing an inherent appreciation for the environment and natural formations. Learning and memorising details from nature, I was schooled in lessons of growth, patterns of flight, identity through sound and acknowledgments of smell; coming to accept that life is all of these and much more. The process of sourcing inspiration from found objects has had a profound impact on my work. These materials are imbued with their own history. Exploring connections to the land and people through these past purposes, lost functions and forgotten times. I am drawn intuitively in my practice to specific objects. Utilising these found objects I have established a body of work which revolves around the interrelationships of memory, the manmade and the crafted alongside organic matter to form a new narrative.
